Countdown to Hurricane Irene

2 Days Before Landfall
I went about my daily routine. I guess I was really living the Scripture that says not to worry about tomorrow for tomorrow has enough troubles of its own. I don’t know where I was — maybe walking into the den and seeing that my husband was watching a newscast about Hurricane Irene. Is she really coming? I asked. Where did she come from? Is this really real?

I was reminded of how four ladies stood in a prayer meeting; one of them was me. Two of them felt the rumble of the Earthquake of 2011; two did not. Yes, I was the one of the two who did not. Every where I went that day, people were talking about their experience with this earth quake. I had very little to tell.

What is the point of all this?

  • First of all, as we concentrate on today, let us be wary of what goes on around us. Taking care of today does not mean being unaware of the things that may impact us. Paul tells us directly: “Walk circumspectly, redeeming the times.”
  • Secondly, although it was strange that the other lady and I did not feel the rumble, the earthquake reminded me of how four people can be in a room, hear the same thing, but not be impacted the same way. I think that’s life!

PRAYER: Father, help us to watch as well as pray. Live as well as watch. Hear as well as listen. Do as well as hear. Amen.
