Kokeb Gedamu was born in poverty in a remote village in Ethiopia as a Beta Yisrael, a Black Jew whose people were converted to Christianity at the end of the 19th century. In the 1960s,. threatened by armed communist insurgents who persecuted Christians, Jews, and supporters of Haile Selassie , he fled his village, traveling over mountains and through jungles where many of his comrades had perished. In the midst of threats to his life and his family’s safety , he undertakes a journey that carries him into three continents and pushes his faith to its dire limits.
